tombstone investment & finance definition
An
advertisement placed by underwriters as part of a securities offering. The
tombstone includes basic details about the offering, such as the amount of
securities being sold, the name of the selling company, and the names of the
investment banks that are selling the offering.

The ad lists the security, some of the security's specifics, and a bracketed list of the members of the syndicate selling the issue in the order of the members' importance. The term derives from the fact that the notice appears as a matter of record after the sale has been completed.
