stock purchase plan investment & finance definition

A benefit plan for employees that allows them to purchase shares of the employers’ stock, often at a discount. Money to purchase the stock can be withheld from the employee’s paycheck. Dividends also may be reinvested. A stock purchase plan differs from an employee’s stock ownership plan (ESOP), which is a qualified retirement plan.
