A stock exchange such as the New York Stock Ex-change (NYSE), the American Stock Exchange (AMEX), and the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), which runs the NASDAQ trading system. An SRO has the ability to make its own rules to govern its practices and membership, and can administer fines and other punishments to its members.
