NYSE Composite Index investment & finance definition

A stock index established by the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in 1966 that was intended to be a comprehensive measure of market trends. This index includes all the common stocks listed on the NYSE and four subgroup indices: Finance, Industrial, Transportation, and Utility. The index measures changes in the market value of NYSE common stocks. It is adjusted to eliminate the effects of capitalization changes, new listings, and delistings. The trading symbol is NYA.X.
