Metropolitan Statistical Area investment & finance definition
A federally designated area with an
urban population of at least 50,000 residents and a regional population of
100,000. A metropolitan statistical area includes major cities plus the
suburban areas surrounding them. Federal banking regulations allow financial
institutions that do business within an MSA to use a single master account with
the Federal Reserve for computing reserve requirements, check processing, and
sending electronic fund transfers.
