hybrid security investment & finance definition
A
financial security that has two or more characteristics of other financial
instruments such as equities, bonds, swaps, forward agreements, futures, or
options. The return often is based on the return of two or more underlying
instruments such as exchange rates, interest rates, or equities. Also called a
structured financial transaction.

A security that has features characteristic of two or more securities. A convertible bond, for example, is a hybrid security in that it has the features (that is, interest, maturity, and principal) of an ordinary bond but is heavily influenced by the price movements of the stock into which it is convertible.
