hogs and pigs report investment & finance definition

A monthly and quarterly report produced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture that outlines hog production and gives insight into the supply-and-demand factors affecting the hog market. The quarter-end reports are published in March, June, September, and December and are more closely watched than the monthly reports.

The three most important measures of the hogs and pigs report are: hogs and pigs, which shows how many pigs are in the market compared to last year, in percentage terms; hogs and pigs kept for breeding, which is how many animals producers are going to hold on to; and hogs and pigs kept for marketing, which outlines how many animals are going to slaughter.
