cash settlement investment & finance definition
An
obligation or financial instrument, such as a futures or options contract, that
is paid for in cash. In a banking transaction, cash settlement is the process
of recording the debit and credit positions of the parties in the transaction
and making the respective cash transfers. In the money market, a transaction is
a cash settlement if the securities that have been purchased are paid for by
Federal Reserve funds on the same day the trade is made.
