Bolsa Mexicana de Valores investment & finance definition

Mexico’s stock exchange, which dates back to 1850, the year Mexican mining stocks were first traded. In 1975 it incorporated stock trading with the Guadalajara and Monterrey exchanges. In 1995 the BMV introduced the electronic trading system for debt instruments, BMV-SENTRA Titulos de Deuda, which was developed by the Bolsa. Debt market trades occur entirely on an electronic platform. The introduction of the electronic trading system for equities, BMV-SENTRA Capitales, came in 1996. In 1998 a new Bolsa subsidiary, Financial Integration Services (SIF), was created to administer the operation of debt market and trading through the electronic trading system for debt instruments. On January 11, 1999, the entire stock market migrated to the electronic trading system. Since then, the stock market has operated via the BMV-SENTRA Equities System. The main price index on the exchange is the IPC Index.
